By a Thread by Jennifer Estep: Review

By a Thread (Elemental Assassin, #6)By a Thread by Jennifer Estep

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

After meeting and hanging out with Jennifer Estep a few months back, her books surprise and delight me even more. If you’re wondering why, let’s just say she’s very soft-spoken and the last person I’d picture writing a series about an elemental assassin, which she does so well it makes me wonder. Is Jennifer sweet and kind on the outside yet is secretly plotting the deaths of all those who hurt the people she loves? I have no idea, but she sure knows how to write about it! People who know me would probably nod their head and answer “Absolutely!” to that question if it pertained to me. But quiet, innocuous Jennifer? NO WAY!

So onto my short review. BY A THREAD is the sixth book in the Elemental Assassin series. After the death of Mab in book five, I thought this series had hit a plateau. I was wrong. Totally wrong. Jennifer not only took me on another insane ride, she also managed to not write a single predictable, cliched part on my no-no list; and that list is so long (I’ll be doing a blog post on this soon) that it is rare for an author to actually accomplish not doing at least one of them.

Since I’m not here to give you a summary for the story, I’ll just end this review by saying: If you haven’t started this series yet, you should. Even if killing and death isn’t your thing, Jennifer will make you adore and love her main character assassin Gin. And that’s no joke. Any author who can do that receives five shining bright stars in my book. Add in Jennifer’s believable, relatable, and multi-dimensional characters, sizzling romances, humor, and a kick-ass plot, and I’m adding in a bonus star. Can I do that? What? I can’t?Goodreads doesn’t have the option for an additional bonus star? Well shit.

***** + * SO THERE!

::SPOILER ALERT:: Note to Jennifer: Thank you SO MUCH for how you handled the almost love triangle in this book. If Gin had cheated on Owen or left Owen for Donavon, I would have cried and been disappointed in level-headed Gin. Thanks for keeping her true to herself and her friends/family.[ Thank you SO MUCH for how you handled the almost love triangle in this book.
